England: Charleston House
July 23rd, 2016

Charleston House was the absolute highlight of my 2006 trip to England. I’ve been wanted to go back since I got here and I finally got the chance to go and share it with more people. It’s a lesser known National Trust site about an hours walk from Lewes in the South Downs. Copenhagen: Rosenborg Castle

Vermeer: Woman In Blue @ The Getty

Vermeer: Woman In Blue Reading A Letter

Gina is visiting me so I took her to The Getty on Saturday. I wanted to see Vermeer’s Woman In Blue Reading A Letter which is on loan from the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam (which is where I saw Vermeer’s The Milkmaid and fell in love with it).

The Getty also had a small exhibition on Illuminated Manuscripts, where I learned that there was such a thing called Gothic Revival. The Gothic Revival was basically a time in the 1800s where everyone went ape-shit for the Gothic Style, including Illuminated Manuscripts. They would make replicas and try to pass them off as originals. Now I know to keep an eye out for manuscripts that look old, but not old enough.
