Pasta Nera

In Venice, I ate a lot of food. A lot of it was pastry, but the winner was probably this amazing dish of squid ink pasta typical of the region. I got this spaghetti nero di seppia from Rosticceria Gislon, a counter-service diner-style restaurant just off the Rialto Bridge. It was packed with tourists and locals alike because the food is good and the price is right. I couldn’t find any squid ink packaged in the supermarket to take home with me, because chefs here buy the squid with it’s ink sack from the daily fish markets.

Thanksgiving 2015

This year I hosted my first Thanksgiving Dinner where I was responsible for the turkey. Chloe was my co-host and was critical to the execution and everyone else brought amazing on-theme side dishes even though it was almost all of their’s first Thanksgiving.

Greece: Eating Greek in Tavernas

Hands down the best part of our trip to Athens was eating our way across town. Everything we tried was delicious and the experience of the tavernas was fantastic. Waiters were super friendly, the wine was cheap, and the pace was unhurried. It became a struggle to actually be hungry at meal times because we were eating so much and didn’t want to miss anything.

Athens: Souvlaki and Coffee

Thanos recommended to me that I get souvlaki from local hole-in-the-wall Kostas Souvlaki. I ended up going twice, it was so great. The best part was probably the pita because they dusted it with chili powder. What a great idea. Possibly also the best part is that it cost about 2 euro.

San Benedetto is a beach town near Rotella. When I say that Italy is empty of people during August, I mean that they have evacuated all the major cities and parked their extremely tanned asses at beach towns like these.

Italy: Porco Festival

The reason we came to Italy in the middle of August, a month where everything is closed for summer and it’s hot as hell, was because we wanted to attend Rotella’s Porco Festival. It’s a three day festival celebrating pork in all it’s forms. The entire town comes together to put on this festival which attracts huge crowds for such a tiny village.
